What’s Actually Happening to Your Skin During an RF Facial

Apollo Quattro Treatment

There’s a moment, somewhere in their 30s or 40s. It’s the moment you catch yourself in a mirror under bad lighting and think, that’s not quite how I remember looking.

For some of you, that’s a nudge to get ahead of it. For others, it’s already landed, and you’re less interested in “prevention” and more interested in looking like yourself again.

What we actually want to do here is explain what’s happening under the skin, not because it makes for surprisingly good small talk (though it does), but because understanding it tends to matter more than being sold on it.

Why ageing skin isn’t just about wrinkles

Skin ageing is really three things happening at once, and most treatments only address one of them.

  1. Your skin slows down making collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep it firm and bouncy.
  2. The muscle underneath loses tone, the same way any unused muscle does.
  3. Your skin’s ability to hold onto moisture and repair itself slows down.

Address only one of these and you get a partial result. Address all three and that’s when people start saying you look well rested, even when you haven’t slept any differently (we won’t tell them your secret).

This is the whole idea behind the RF machine we’ve recently added at Shine. Not because it’s a shiny new machine (though it is), but because it’s one of the few technologies that actually works on all three layers in one treatment.

The four things actually happening in the treatment

  1. Heat, working on your skin’s structure. RF sends controlled heat into the deeper layers of your skin, tightening it immediately and triggering new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.
  2. Muscle, getting reactivated. EMS sends a gentle electrical signal that makes the muscle under your skin contract on its own, the same basic principle as resistance training, minus the effort. You just lie there while your jawline does the actual work, genuinely one of the easiest workouts you’ll ever get results from.
  3. Ingredients, actually getting where they need to go. Infusion briefly opens a pathway that lets active ingredients travel deeper into your skin than they could applied by hand. It’s how we get more out of every product we use on you, more hydration, more brightening, more results for pigmentation, breakouts or ageing, simply because more of the good stuff actually makes it in instead of evaporating on the surface.
  4. Cold, calming everything back down. A short cooling step afterward reduces redness and inflammation and leaves you with a fresher, calmer finish.

Choosing the right level for where you’re at

Not every client needs the same treatment, and that’s genuinely fine, we promise we won’t judge either way.

  • Want lift and tightening, no fuss? Our RF Contour Facial covers the heat and muscle work. Works best as a course, six sessions, one to two weeks apart.
  • Got a specific concern too, pigmentation, dehydration, congestion, texture? Sculpt and Glow adds the infusion step, treating that concern in the same visit.
  • Want wind down and results? The Ritual adds massage and LED on top, for the relaxation and the glow.

None of these are “better” than the others. They’re just built for different needs and different afternoons.

The bit we actually want you to take away

Ageing well isn’t about fighting your skin. It’s about understanding what it actually needs at each stage, whether that’s staying ahead of things in your 30s or wanting to feel like yourself again later on.

If any of this has you curious about your own skin, that’s exactly what a consultation is for, an honest look at what’s going on. And if you’re already a little curious what it actually feels like, come in and try it. We genuinely can’t wait to see what it does for your skin, and we won’t be shy about telling you so.
