SQT-Bio needling
SQT bio microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing processes to encourage collagen production, improve skin texture and address a variety of skin concerns. It is a cutting-edge skin treatment designed to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. It uses tiny silicious biological fibers to create micro injuries in the skin, initiating a repair process that makes the skin firmer, vibrant, youthful and healthier.
The SQT Spongilla Spicules are a kind of siliceous organic matter that is extracted from the sea sponge. It is an all natural, and made of non-chemical ingredients using non-chemical synthesis.
The result is smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.
How does it work?
SQT Bio microneedling uses fibers to create tiny channels in the skin, which activates your body’s natural healing response. This process triggers a mild inflammatory response, which is essential for skin repair. The body sends growth factors to the treated area, stimulating collagen and elastin production to improve firmness and texture. The treatment also accelerates cell turnover, helping to renew and refresh the skin. During the procedure, bioactive serums are applied, enhancing the effects by speeding up healing.
Benefits of SQT Bio-Needling:
– Improves skin texture and tone – Minimizes pores and acne scars
– Boosts collagen production – Hydrates and nourishes the skin
– Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
– Enhances product absorption
What to Expect:
The procedure takes about 60mins with minimal discomfort. You will experience redness, itchiness and mild irritation, similar to a light sunburn, which typically subsides within a day or two.

What is SQT Bio-Needling?
SQT Bio-Needling is an advanced, non-invasive treatment that uses Spongilla spicules—microscopic freshwater sponge particles—to stimulate the skin’s natural healing, collagen production, and cell turnover. It offers results similar to traditional microneedling but without the use of needles or downtime from needling trauma.
What skin concerns does it treat?
This powerful treatment is ideal for:
Acne and congestion
Pigmentation and dullness
Enlarged pores and texture issues
Ageing skin and fine lines
Post-acne scarring
What makes our SQT Bio-Needling different?
At Shine Skin and Body, we’re proud to be the only clinic in Melbourne offering this treatment with extractions included. This means you not only get deep skin renewal and collagen stimulation—you’ll also leave with clearer skin and fewer blockages.
Most other clinics don’t perform extractions during SQT, but we know that addressing congestion and breakouts at the same time makes a world of difference.
Is it painful?
There’s no numbing involved, and no needles. However, you may feel a prickly or tingling sensation during and after the treatment as the spicules enter the skin. This is completely normal and a sign the treatment is working.
What’s the downtime like?
Downtime is a couole of days.
You may experience:
You cant wear makeup, spf or do skincare for 2 days whilst the spicules do their thing. We dont want to wash them off!
Tingling or warmth for 12–24 hours
Dryness, flaking or rough texture for 2–4 days
A sandpaper-like feel as the spicules gradually release
It’s important not to rub, exfoliate, or wear heavy makeup during the first few days to allow the skin to renew properly.
How many treatments will I need?
The great thing about sqt-bio needling is you can just have 1. But a course gives amazing fresh results. We usually recommend a course of 4–6 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart, depending on your skin condition and goals. You’ll start seeing smoother, clearer, brighter skin within just one or two sessions, with the best long-term results appearing after a full course.
Can I do this if I have acne or sensitive skin?
Yes, it’s incredibly effective for active acne and congestion, especially when paired with extractions. However, if your skin is highly reactive, barrier-compromised, or inflamed, we may recommend building strength through customised facials before beginning.
Does SQT Bio-Needling include extractions?
Yes—ours does! We’re the only clinic offering this treatment with manual extractions built in. We take our time, working gently and precisely without metal tools, to give your skin the clean slate it needs to truly regenerate.
Is SQT Bio-Needling better than traditional dermal needling?
Both SQT Bio-Needling and dermal needling are highly effective treatments—but they work in different ways, and the best choice depends on your skin concerns and how quickly you want to see results.
SQT Bio-Needling is ideal for improving skin texture, light acne scarring, active breakouts, and boosting cell turnover for fresher, glowing skin. You’ll notice visible results within a week—your skin will look smoother, clearer, and more radiant, and the improvements continue with each treatment. It’s perfect for anyone wanting immediate glow and clarity, especially if you’re targeting acne-prone skin or dullness.
On the other hand, dermal needling (also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy) is the long game. It’s designed for deeper structural changes—like reducing deep acne scars, large pores, and advanced signs of ageing such as fine lines and loss of firmness. While the results take longer to show (typically after 4 sessions), they’re more long-lasting and deeply transformative.
Still unsure? Don’t worry—your skin specialist will help guide you during your consultation to choose the best option for your skin goals.
What product ranges do you use with this treatment?
We use supportive, skin-strengthening formulas from Dermaviduals and other corneotherapy-aligned brands to calm and replenish the skin post-treatment. Everything is selected based on your skin’s condition and concerns.
